10. Oscar Pistorious
Born in Sandton, Johannesburg, Transvaal Province, South Africa; Oscar Pistorious’s life is a story of promise and perseverance to a saga of murder and a 6 year prison sentence. Born with a condition called fibular hemimelia a birth defect where part or all of the fibular bone is missing. Due to this congenital condition doctors had to remove Pistorious’s legs when he was just 11 months old.
Despite the condition, Pistorious went on to play sports including, water polo, tennis and even rugby union. In 2003 at age 17, Francois van der Watt fitted Oscar with prosthetics that allowed him to run and exhibit his full potential. Pistorious went on to win Gold in 2004 Athens Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics, and the 2012 London Games Paralympic Games.
